A workshop aimed at preparing enterprises of the Chuvash Republic to Russia's accession to the WTO took place in the Republican Business Incubator on April 10, 2012. Presentation of investment potential of the Chuvash Republic took place at the Congress-Centre of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation on 21 February, 2012.
Major participants of the event were President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation Sergey Katyrin, delegation of the Chuvash Republic headed by the Prime Minister of the Chuvash Republic Ivan Motorin, Russian and foreign investors, representatives of federal and regional bodies of legislative and executive power, diplomatic corps, mass media. The Head of Chuvashia reported to Dmitry Medvedev on the performance of the housing and utilities sector in the republic. The region's socioeconomic situation was also discussed.
In particular, Mikhail Ignatyev reported to the President on the growth trend in all economic sectors in the republic and a rise in the housing construction rate.
Chuvash Republic is not rich in natural resources. This fact promotes development of service sphere, which is one of the most perspective in the region and has a huge potential to be exported in the near future.
Rendering services to residents of foreign countries is a rapidly growing market tending to broaden further. Following the goal to discuss advantages and possibilities of service trade development in the region, Centre of Export Support of the Chuvash Republic initiated arrangement of round tables chain to form up effective measures of government support and mark the directions of service sphere improvement. Today, on 16 December 2011, Russia cleared the final hurdle to become a WTO member. WTO Ministers adopted Russia’s WTO terms of entry at the 8th Ministerial Conference in Geneva. Russia will have to ratify the deal within the next 220 days and would become a fully-fledged WTO member 30 days after it notifies the ratification to the WTO.
